Learning to Love Myself Again

Published on 2 August 2025 at 23:08

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” — Psalm 139:14

Somewhere along the way, you stopped loving yourself.
Maybe it was the words someone spoke over you.
Maybe it was the way you were treated.
Maybe it was the mistakes you made that made you feel unworthy.

But here’s the truth: you are still worthy of love—especially your own.

When Self-Love Feels Impossible

It’s hard to love yourself when:

  • You’ve been told you’re not enough.
  • You’ve been rejected or abandoned.
  • You’ve made choices you regret.
  • You’ve been in relationships that tore you down.

But God never stopped loving you. And He never asked you to be perfect—only to be His.

“We love because He first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19

Loving yourself isn’t prideful—it’s agreeing with God about who you are.

Reclaiming Your Identity

You are not your past.
You are not your pain.
You are not what others said about you.

You are:

  • Chosen (Ephesians 1:4)
  • Redeemed (Colossians 1:14)
  • Beautifully made (Psalm 139:14)
  • Deeply loved (Romans 8:38-39)

How to Start Loving Yourself Again

  1. Speak life over yourself– Replace negative self-talk with God’s truth.
  2. Forgive yourself– If God has forgiven you, you can forgive you too.
  3. Take care of your heart and body– Rest, nourish, and protect what God created.
  4. Surround yourself with love– Be around people who reflect God’s love back to you.

Prayer

Father, I’ve struggled to love myself. I’ve believed lies about who I am. But today, I choose to see myself through Your eyes. Help me to embrace the truth that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Teach me to love myself the way You love me. Amen.

Reflection Questions

  • What lies have you believed about yourself?
  • What does God say about your identity?
  • What’s one way you can show love to yourself this week?
